Programme details

The ‘One Health’ approach recognizes the complexity of the integration between society and nature. Based on principles of equity, inclusion, accessibility, socio-ecological balance, and transdisciplinarity, it seeks to translate these values into effective policies and actions across different sectors and communities. It aims to promote well-being, safeguard health, and protect ecosystems.
‘One Health’ in the sustainability perspective, emphasizes integrated solutions that respect planetary boundaries, encourage the responsible use of natural resources, and enhance equity among populations.
This Panel will explore how this transdisciplinary approach - that connects human, animal and environmental health - can effectively tackle emerging and ongoing challenges, such as pandemics, antimicrobial resistance, and climate threats under the sustainability perspective.
The panel is organized by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz, Brazil), a public institution of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. Fiocruz plays a central role in leading research and guiding health management tools. It significantly contributed to the development of the Brazil’s universal, public, equitable, and high-quality Unified Health System (SUS). With over 125 years, Fiocruz carries a legacy of experiences, lessons learned, and leadership in promoting sustainable development and strengthening democracy with equity.
