FIN/SUM, an international conference jointly organized by Nikkei and Financial Services Agency, will be held at the Expo site to discuss where technology is today and what the future holds under the theme of “The Future Created by FinTech"

【Reflection】
Fintech, the fusion of finance and technology, has brought about innovation in a variety of fields, including cashless payment and remittance services, asset management, loans and fundraising, insurance, and accounting. The players involved have expanded from financial institutions such as banks to non-financial fields such as the service industry and startups. Utilizing the collaboration with FIN/SUM, an international conference jointly held by NIKKEI and Financial Services Agency Jaoan, we discussed the future of finance transformed by technology under the theme of "The Future Created by Fintech."
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
At the Expo, experts and people in the finance and IT fields who have been promoting FinTech held a frank and positive discussion, looking back at their past steps and exploring the direction that should be taken to develop the national economy. They were able to deepen their mutual collaboration by expressing and exchanging their opinions.This session serves as an opportunity to promote the spread of cashless, digital wallets, advancing transformation towards new payment methods that make life safer and more convenient.

As an assistant director of the Innovation Promotion Office, Risk Analysis Division, Policy Management Bureau, he is in charge of promoting the Fintech industry. In the past, he has worked in a variety of positions in the public sector, including secondment to the Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He has a wide-ranging career in financial supervision and policy planning. He graduated from the University of Tokyo and holds an MBA from London Business School.

SBI Holdings President's Office Big Data Division Manager
Joined SBI Holdings as a new graduate in 2007, and became Representative Director of SBI Point Union (now SBI Point) in 2008. In 2012, established the current Big Data Section of the President's Office at SBI Holdings as a CoE organization for data utilization across the SBI Group, and became its leader, focusing on data analysis and AI development for each group company. Concurrently serves as an officer of SBI Group's Insurtech and Blockchain subsidiaries. Since 2022, he has served as a director and chairman of the Planning and Publication Committee of the Financial Data Utilization Promotion Association.

Hozue Igarashi
Financial Services Agency, Policy Management Bureau, Risk Analysis Division, Counselor
He has experience working in both the public and private sectors, and has been involved in regulatory compliance for new Web3 businesses, AI-based monitoring, and BPR in the private sector. He was in charge of digital forensics at the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission. He also creates and implements IT human resource development curricula. He currently works for the Financial Services Agency, where he is involved in AI promotion, cybersecurity, and quantum cryptography technology, contributing to the use of cutting-edge technology and risk management.

In 1990, he joined EY ShinNihon LLC. He was responsible for statutory audit work for the IPO of global companies and non-audit work such as IPO support. He then shifted his focus to the financial field and engaged in advisory work such as global data governance design, internal control design and evaluation, trust areas such as regtech, financial pricing model design, and inorganic business strategy. He was also involved in planning and promoting hackathons with the Financial Services Agency and supporting the Cabinet Secretariat's regulatory sandbox.

Yuko Kawai
Deputy President of Kochi Bank
After working at US financial institutions, think tanks, the Bank of Japan (financial market analysis, financial institution risk management, FinTech, working in Hong Kong, London, Kochi, etc.), and Japan Digital Design (IT engineering/design/data analysis under MUFG), he joined Kochi Bank in July 2023. His areas of expertise include regional economy, financial markets, and digitalization of financial services. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kyoto University and holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Masaki Bessho
Bank of Japan Kobe Branch Manager
He joined the Bank of Japan in 1994 and has been in his current position since 2024. From 2021 to 2024, as Director of the FinTech Center in the Payment Systems Department, he promoted various projects aimed at innovating payment systems, including the use of central bank digital currencies and distributed ledgers in the payment field, and participated in numerous domestic and international forums in related fields. He has also worked at overseas offices (London and Frankfurt), and has held positions in legal systems, accounting, and information technology research, legal affairs, international conference management, foreign currency asset management, and as a member of a subcommittee of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, Kyoto University (1994) and the University of Virginia Law School (1999).

Junpei Miwa
CEO of National Liberal Arts, Inc. Director of Fintech Association of Japan
He presides over and manages the think tank firm National Liberal Arts. Prior to that, he served as Director General for International Policy (Sustainable Innovation) and Director of the Fintech Office at the Financial Services Agency. He was involved in international negotiations regarding the formulation of international regulations on banking, insurance, etc., and played a central role in policy issues such as financial innovation and sustainable finance. He is a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo Institute of Technology Graduate School. He is a founding member of the Blockchain Governance Initiative Network (BGIN). He joined the Export-Import Bank of Japan in 1999.

Mamoru Fujimoto
Executive Officer, SBI Holdings
After working for a major foreign consulting firm, he founded a financial systems venture in 2000. He then joined the SBI Group and was appointed head of the Blockchain Promotion Office in 2016. He is promoting blockchain-related investments and new business planning and launch both within and outside the SBI Group. In 2019, he established SBI R3 Japan, a joint venture with the US company R3, and was appointed Representative Director and CEO. He was appointed director when the SBI Financial and Economic Research Institute was established in 2021.

Naoki Endo

In 1995, he joined Sakura Bank (currently Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation). He built his career at branches and headquarters, focusing on domestic corporate business, and in April 2020, he was appointed General Manager of the Kariya Corporate Sales Department (Aichi Prefecture). In April 2022, he became General Manager of the Payment Planning Department, responsible for strategy planning and planning management for corporate payment operations, including the BtoBtoC area. In April 2024, he became General Manager of the Transaction Business Department, responsible for planning and promoting the entire payment business, including promoting cashless transactions. As the Osaka-Kansai Expo is a major event that the SMBC Group is working on with all its might, he would like to take this opportunity to contribute to further expanding the circle of cashless promotion in Japan from the Osaka and Kansai regions.

Takashi Okita
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fintech Association of Japan CEO of Nudge
While studying at Hitotsubashi University, he co-founded the major electronic payment company VeriTrans, which went public in 2004. In 2012, he co-founded econtext ASIA, which went public on the Hong Kong stock market the following year. In 2016, he became the CEO of SBI Ripple Asia. During that time, he also served as an executive officer at the US company Ripple and Indonesia's Tokopedia. In 2020, he founded Nudge. His main public positions include being a specialist member of the Financial System Council.

Syuji Uchida
West Japan Railway Company, Deputy General Manager, WESTER-X Business Division, and General Manager, Payment Services
After working in station operations and as a conventional line driver, he worked in the branch office sales department, and then in charge of regional transportation planning in the headquarters corporate planning department. In 2015, he was involved in the decision to participate in the Brazilian passenger railway business as the practical leader of the project to consider participation, and in 2016 he was seconded to a local subsidiary of a Japanese trading company and played a coordinating role in improving the value of the local railway business by utilizing our railway technology. After returning to Japan, he was involved in many projects, including the launch of the autonomous driving and platooning BRT project, project owner of the app "WESTER", and group digital strategy formulation, and from April 2011 he was the manager in charge of payment services at JR West, which rolls out ICOCA, J-WEST Card, and the new payment service "Wesmo!".

Midori Kanemitsu

Graduated from Hitotsubashi University Faculty of Economics. In 2006, he was in charge of derivative structuring (mainly equity derivatives, CB and foreign exchange derivatives) at the Capital Markets Division of the Investment Banking Department of Goldman Sachs Securities. He has been involved in several projects that were the first of their kind in Japan.
Joined bitFlyer in January 2016. Initially, he was in charge of PR and general administrative work. After that, he was in charge of financial and treasury work as a financial institution. He was involved in planning and operating wallet structures. In 2022, he was in charge of new coins and new products, and in 2024, he became the head of bitFlyer's Business Strategy Division. He has been a director of Custodyem since 2013. He is a JBA advisor and vice chairman of the JCBA Finance Division. He is a personal hobbyist who studies and practices DAOs around the world.

Born in Kazuno, Akita Prefecture in 1960. Graduated from the School of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University in 1983. Joined the Nihon Keizai Shimbun Inc. Served as a securities reporter, Chicago correspondent, Cairo bureau chief, editor-in-chief of Nikkei Magazine, photo director, editorial committee member, and general producer. In 2016, launched FIN/SUM, a fintech event co-hosted by Nikkei and the Financial Services Agency, and has since been involved in numerous SUM series events. In 2020, left Nikkei to found GiveFirst Co., Ltd., co-hosted Web3 Future with blockchain startup Ginco in 2022, served as general producer of GenAI/SUM (Generative AI Summit) hosted by Nikkei in 2024, and general producer of FIN/SUM 2025, the 9th event in 2025.
