【Reflection】
At Expo 2025 Osaka, the Commissioner General of Algeria’s Pavilion expressed appreciation to the Japanese government for promoting openness, diversity, and intercultural exchange to build a more resilient, sustainable world. The session focused on the future of communities, mobility, and particularly cyber security—an area Algeria is actively addressing through national efforts involving Algeria Telecom and GZ Telecom.
Ben Abbas Ysef from Algeria Telecom opened the panel by highlighting the growing risks of cyber threats in an increasingly digital society where online services underpin government, banking, business, and daily life. He stressed the need to protect digital infrastructure against cyberattacks that could disrupt services and compromise data.
The discussion introduced Algeria’s cyber security strategy, “Safeguarding the Critical Sector in the Digital Age,” which responds to the surge in cyber threats—over 70 million attacks in 2024 alone. The growth of internet users, remote work, and digitalization has heightened vulnerabilities. Algeria currently ranks 70th globally in cyber security exposure.
The panel highlighted key elements of Algeria’s national strategy: legal reforms, cyber defense initiatives, and the “Digital Algeria 2025” project, which aims to expand internet access and foster digital transformation while reinforcing cyber security. The speakers called for continued investment in technology, skills development, and international cooperation to build a safer digital environment for both citizens and businesses.
The discussion underscored Algeria’s determination to implement a robust cyber security framework while engaging with global partners to share knowledge and best practices. Cyber security was presented as a shared responsibility vital to protecting the nation’s digital economy and future resilience.
