EXPO2025 Theme Weeks

Programme details

The event aims to highlight the role of women as transformative agents and drivers of development in Latin America and the Caribbean, both in the present and throughout history. It seeks to showcase their contributions to economic and social development, peacebuilding, science and innovation, the defense of rights, and the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, it fosters dialogue on gender equality, dignity, and the inclusion of women in all social spheres.
Following the talks, Professor Hermes’ Dance Company will present a vibrant showcase of Latin dances, offering a cultural lens on the region’s artistic heritage. The programme will conclude with a tasting of Cuban coffee—an industry where women play an essential role in cultivation, harvesting, and trade—providing an additional opportunity for cultural exchange and appreciation.

Reports

【Reflection】
The programme primarily featured lectures delivered by Cuban speakers, highlighting the multifaceted roles of women as agents of social change in Latin America and the Caribbean. The lectures shared historical experiences, illustrating the long-standing contributions of women to peacebuilding and community development. In addition, concrete examples were provided of women’s participation in economic and entrepreneurial activities, as well as achievements in education, science, and innovation, emphasising their vital role in supporting the social and economic foundations of their communities. Efforts to promote gender equality and social inclusion, alongside practical examples of overcoming challenges to achieve results, were also presented, giving participants a deeper insight into women’s leadership and initiative.

In the latter part of the programme, attendees enjoyed a Latin dance performance by Professor Hermes’ Dance Company and a Cuban coffee tasting, offering a cultural perspective that symbolically celebrated women’s social, economic, and cultural contributions. Overall, the programme provided participants with an opportunity to recognise anew the significance of women’s transformative impact and their contributions to sustainable community development.

【Post EXPO Initiatives】
The valuable insights and experiences gained from this programme will be applied not only to future Expo programmes but also to international efforts to promote gender equality. The Cuba Pavilion will continue to present initiatives highlighting the social roles and cultural contributions of women. Specifically, this will include exhibitions and workshops reflecting the content of the lectures, as well as online content showcasing the work of leading women, ensuring ongoing information is shared with participants and a wider audience of visitors.

Furthermore, opportunities for interaction and networking with women leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean will be expanded, supporting concrete initiatives to promote SDGs and encourage women’s participation in community development. Through these activities, it is hoped that participants and visitors will apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives and workplaces, fostering a deeper understanding of and engagement with the roles of women in their communities.
