【Reflection】
From 17 to 19 September 2025, SMART ENERGY WEEK [September] 2025 took place at Makuhari Messe, Japan. As one of the largest renewable energy exhibitions in Japan’s second half of the year, it aimed to accelerate the transition to a decarbonised society in line with the 2050 carbon neutrality goal.

The event showcased cutting-edge technologies driving Green Transformation (GX), including hydrogen and fuel cells, solar power, rechargeable batteries, smart grids, offshore wind, and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). Alongside six core exhibitions, special zones such as “Fusion Power World”, “BIPV WORLD”, “Floating Offshore Wind World”, “ESS – Energy Storage System WORLD”, and “Sustainability Management Week” promoted cross-sector collaboration and innovation.

Over 100 conferences were held, featuring speakers from government, industry, and academia, both domestic and international. Topics ranged from policy trends and technological advancements to public-private-academic partnerships, offering diverse insights into the future of energy.

The show opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by 34 leading figures from the energy sector, including representatives from Japan’s Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, the European Commission, universities, research institutes, and energy companies.

Five themed networking events were held over the 3 days, focusing on hydrogen, batteries, wind power, and sustainability. These sessions fostered meaningful connections and new business opportunities.

With 506 exhibitors and 45,741 visitors from 63 countries and regions, the exhibition served as a dynamic international platform for face-to-face business discussions and knowledge exchange, contributing to the advancement of the global renewable energy industry.
