【Reflection】
JETRO co-hosted the “Kansai Africa Business Forum” in Osaka with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Held in conjunction with the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) and the Osaka-Kansai Expo, the forum aimed to deepen economic ties between the Kansai region and African nations. It was attended by ministers from Ghana, Senegal, Rwanda, and Uganda, along with a total of 174 participants from Japanese and African public and private sectors.
Representing the African side, Senegal's Minister of Industry and Trade, Serigne Gaye Jop, stated that under President Bassirou Djohar Faï, Senegal is placing the private sector at the center of its development strategy, advancing improvements to the investment environment and introducing competitive incentives. He highlighted four areas where Kansai's strengths align with Senegal's needs: renewable energy and hydrogen; the food industry, including processing local products and enhancing food security; economic modernization through infrastructure and digital technology; and healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
Six Osaka/Kansai companies engaged in African business and two Japanese companies expanding into Africa in the hydrogen and renewable energy sectors also took the stage. They shared an overview of their African operations and future prospects.
The content of this forum is available on the JETRO website.

【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Based on this information dissemination, it is hoped that more Japanese companies will take an interest in expanding their business operations in Africa, thereby deepening economic ties between Kansai and Africa. Over 45 African countries participated in the Osaka-Kansai Expo, and JETRO also organized multiple business events and other initiatives related to Africa in addition to this one. We will follow up with the companies that participated in these events, introducing support measures and other resources to assist them in developing new markets.
