Reports
【Reflection】
This programme highlighted the initiatives of the Barito Pasifik Group and its affiliated organisations in building a sustainable society in harmony with nature. While operating across energy, petrochemicals, renewable energy, and real estate, the group has actively promoted a circular economy, plastic recycling, and the development of waste management technologies.
Notably, the “Green Guardians” programme by the NGO Yayasan Bakti Barito has provided climate change and waste management education in 121 schools, reaching approximately 34,000 students and 11,000 teachers, thereby offering numerous opportunities to raise environmental awareness.
In addition, the Javan leopard conservation survey, supported by Star Energi Geothermal, established 39 monitoring stations within a national park, confirming the species’ presence at 97.5% of locations.
Furthermore, the use of plastic-incorporated asphalt has improved road durability by around 40%, achieving both waste reduction and the enhancement of regional infrastructure.
Through lectures and talk shows, participants gained a clear understanding of how companies, governments, local communities, and NGOs can collaborate to address sustainability challenges, and experienced firsthand how industrial activity and nature conservation can coexist successfully.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the Expo, the Barito Pasifik Group released the book Dance of Life, summarising its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives and further strengthening public outreach and transparency.
The practical application of pyrolysis for plastic waste and the development of plastic-mixed asphalt have attracted attention as model cases that simultaneously enhance regional economic development and reduce environmental impact.
Moving forward, plans are underway to expand these technologies to a wider scope. Yayasan Bakti Barito continues to implement climate education and waste management programmes in schools, aiming to broaden participation and develop next-generation education programmes, thereby fostering environmental awareness among a greater number of students and teachers. In addition, the Javan leopard conservation survey is being strengthened through expanded habitat protection and ongoing monitoring, with the goal of advancing scientifically based conservation plans. Furthermore, the collaborative framework among companies, local communities, government bodies, and NGOs is being expanded, extending these efforts to new regions and projects.
These future-oriented initiatives serve as a pioneering model demonstrating the coexistence of industry and nature, sharing knowledge domestically and internationally, and further raising expectations for the realisation of a sustainable society.
