【Reflection】
The World Expo Osaka 2025 provided an excellent platform for Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to bring together global academic leaders, industry innovators, and policy advocates for a thought-provoking programme focused on building a more resilient and sustainable future. This event enabled NTU to showcase its commitment to addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainable materials, and cross-border water solutions through cutting-edge research and strategic collaboration.

Experts from the School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) presented on topics closely related to everyday life, including innovative approaches to plastic recycling, environmentally friendly and cost-effective water treatment technologies, circular models in the fashion industry, and the sustainable extraction of bioactive compounds from vegetable waste. These presentations attracted considerable interest from attendees. Meanwhile, the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) highlighted science-based solutions addressing both mitigation and adaptation strategies to climate change, providing participants with valuable insights and inspiration.

Throughout the programme, NTU effectively communicated its vision of contributing to society through science and innovation on a global stage. The Q&A sessions and networking opportunities fostered new dialogues with universities, companies, and research institutions from Asia and Europe, significantly broadening prospects for international cooperation.

【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Following the Expo, NTU held follow-up meetings with several universities and research organisations that participated in the programme. These discussions have laid the groundwork for collaborative utilisation of research findings and exchanges among students and researchers, with several joint projects now underway.

In particular, there is promising potential for collaboration with Japanese universities and industry partners in the development of environmentally friendly new materials and urban resilience strategies against climate change. Such initiatives are expected to contribute to the creation of sustainable societal models across the Asian region.

Furthermore, positive participant feedback and media coverage have encouraged NTU to strengthen its internal frameworks to accelerate related research activities. Preparations are in progress for active engagement in future international conferences and academic networks.

Presenting at an international event such as Expo 2025 has marked a significant milestone for NTU in expanding its global research and educational networks. Going forward, the university remains committed to deepening interdisciplinary and international partnerships to realise a more sustainable and resilient future.
