Programme details
In this lecture, we will discuss the economic impact of hosting the Expo, the gathering of ideas and cutting-edge technologies, and how the achievement of the SDGs is closely related to the theme of "Designing a Future Society for Life." We will also explain how to create an Expo that minimizes negative impacts on the environment and society and maximizes people's potential, and how the involvement of all stakeholders is important to realizing the sustainable society that the Expo will pave the way for.
Reports
【Reflection】
Through this forum, we disseminated information on activities aimed at achieving a sustainable society and their impact on the economy from a business and human rights perspective. When promoting initiatives to achieve the SDGs, respecting human rights is crucial for businesses sustainability, and we emphasized that fostering respecting human lights will be an increasingly important factor serving to strengthen companies’ competitiveness. Additionally, we stated that the holding of the Expo would create economic ripple effects through strengthened collaborations aimed at increasing visitor spending and with relevant events held both at the Expo and other areas, and by being a "People’s Living Lab" enabling the creation of businesses for early implementation of new technologies into society.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
We anticipate our information dissemination activities will spark the interest of many Japanese companies in human rights due diligence initiatives,—a series of actions aimed at identifying, preventing, and mitigating human rights violations within their own operations, group companies, and supply chains, evaluating the effectiveness of these efforts, and explaining and disclosing how these violations are addressed. This growing interest is expected to contribute to the development of more robust and sustainable supply chains. The Osaka-Kansai Expo is the first World Expo organized under the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We held a seminar titled "Creating a Sustainable Society " in Osaka in June, to introduce these initiatives in the host city during the Expo.
