Under the theme of "Connections," hands-on exhibits that appeal to visitors' five senses will be developed in four zones: "Connect with Yourself," "Connect with Surroundings," "Connect with Society," and "Connect with the Earth," providing opportunities for visitors to actively and independently think about things and take action as future creators. Talk sessions are scheduled to be held on stages and other venues in conjunction with the hands-on content of the exhibitors.
Reports
【Reflection】
People of all ages, from preschoolers to seniors, showed interest in this event. Over 70,000 visitors attended during the six-day period. They actively engaged with scientists from universities and other institutions through exhibits, stage events, tours, and stamp rallies, using all five senses to experience science and technology related to solving societal challenges. Among those who completed the visitor survey, 89% responded that they were “satisfied” or “somewhat satisfied.” Regarding the industry-academia-government collaboration initiatives, 76% stated they “understood very well” or “understood fairly well.” Furthermore, many shared impressions such as “It was interesting with new discoveries and learning” and “I felt science is connected to my daily life.” In the open-ended comments section, many expressed being moved by the enthusiasm and thorough explanations of the students and researchers, saying it heightened their expectations for the future. Others noted they enjoyed learning in an engaging way, found it fascinating, and were able to experience research relevant to their daily lives. Overall, we believe this exhibition achieved its objectives: providing visitors with an opportunity to consider future society by framing social issue resolution as a personal concern, and making researchers feel more approachable to younger generations. Furthermore, for the participating universities and organizations involved in industry-academia-government collaboration, the communication with visitors helped strengthen their awareness of future society and connections with people. This experience will contribute to advancing their activities aimed at solving future social issues.
【Post EXPO Initiatives】
In the visitor survey, we received numerous comments expressing a desire for extended event periods and the regular holding of similar events. Regarding the item “Expectations for universities and other institutions as a platform for disseminating research results,” the highest expectations were for the following, in order: “Special exhibitions like this one, held in rented exhibition spaces,” “Holding public lectures and workshops,” “Facility tours of universities and research institutes (open labs),” “Permanent exhibitions at science museums, etc.,” and “Posts on social media and video streaming.” We intend to advance initiatives that will contribute to future dissemination of research results by universities and other institutions, such as horizontally expanding the effective science and technology communication methods gained through this event.
