【Reflection】
Wales Day showcased the diverse appeal of Wales through highlights of its culture, creative industries, and food and drink experiences. Challenging stereotypes, Wales was widely promoted as a creative, innovative, and high-tech nation. Over 1,000 members of the public attended, significantly contributing to enhancing Wales’ reputation as an attractive destination for work, travel, and investment.

The event featured traditional music and dance performances by a dance group and band invited from Wales. Three dancers performed in traditional costumes with a modern twist, delivering a well-coordinated performance. An opera singer’s rendition of “Home” provided a moving moment symbolising the friendship between Japan and Wales. Visitors also thoroughly enjoyed local flavours such as Welsh cakes and goat cheese.

Additionally, the event included a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Well-being of Future Generations Act, highlighting Wales’ advanced initiatives towards building a sustainable society.

Rebecca Evans, Wales’ Minister for Economy, Energy and Planning, also attended and described the event as a valuable opportunity to promote Wales’ unique culture both domestically and internationally, and to deepen ties with Japan.

【Post EXPO Initiatives】
Wales Day provided valuable insights for the Visit Wales campaign, particularly contributing to raising awareness of the Well-being of Future Generations Act. This legislation plays a crucial role in cultural, educational, and youth development sectors, fostering greater understanding of sustainable societal development.

The Act requires public bodies to pursue a broad range of objectives, including environmental protection, health, education, and community strengthening, to ensure that future generations can live in a secure and thriving society. These efforts form a fundamental basis for the vitality of Welsh society as a whole.

Moreover, the exchanges and networks fostered through Wales Day are expected to enhance cultural and economic ties between Japan and Wales. It is hoped that young people in Japan will engage with Wales’ diverse appeal, creating opportunities to deepen their involvement through study, tourism, and business.

Looking ahead, further cooperation is envisaged across various fields, including partnerships between educational institutions and creative industries, as well as joint projects to promote sustainable tourism. Through continued information sharing and exchanges, Wales’ appeal will be further promoted within Japan, strengthening the friendship between the two countries.
