EXPO2025 Theme Weeks

Programme details

Japan Institute of Eventology which explores the significance, methods, and effectiveness of events, has promoting three TEAM EXPO 2025 Co-Creation Challenges based on the participation and collaboration of "Global Citizens" with GISPRI (Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute), a general incorporated foundation that is the successor to Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan.
All of the Co-Creation Challenges we have promoted contribute to achieving the SDGs, which are the goals of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, and inherit the important concept of "citizen participation" realized at Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan.
This program will summarize the results of the three challenges being held on the same day and look ahead to a sustainable society that can be realized through the participation and collaboration of "global citizens."

Reports

Japan Institute of Eventology, which explores the significance, methods, and effects of events, has collaborated with Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute (GISPRI), a general incorporated foundation that inherits the Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan, to participate in the Osaka-Kansai Expo "TEAM EXPO 2025" as a "co-creation partner" and to promote three "co-creation challenges" based on the participation and collaboration of "global citizens," the legacy of the Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan.
"The proposal for a sustainable society realized by global citizens " summarizes and disseminates the results of these co-creation challenges, and in the "summary session," the concept of "global citizen," which is the underlying theme of the three co-creation challenges, was introduced once again, and we looked back on how this concept was utilized in each co-creation challenge.

As for the Conference of Five Regions with World Natural Heritage Sites, the fact that collaboration between the five regions in Japan that have world natural heritage sites was realized can be said to be a major achievement. This presentation reaffirmed the great significance of sharing the activities of each of the five regions to ensure that the conservation of natural heritage sites, daily life, and tourism coexist in a sustainable manner. Furthermore, the importance of communicating Japan's ideas and efforts regarding coexistence with natural heritage to the world was also pointed out, and this presentation raised hopes for future international advocacy activities.

Global Citizens Forum on Water and Watershed for All Lives will be held in Nagoya in 2022, Osaka in 2023, and Tokyo in 2024, gradually expanding in scale as the forum continues to be held. Numerous NGOs/NPOs, universities, and organizations have participated in poster sessions, etc., and this presentation featured a high-level panel with guests from overseas. It was confirmed that "Water and River Basins" has great potential for development as a new interdisciplinary research topic and as a theme for practical activities toward sustainable regional development.

The Kansai Historical and Cultural Capital Forum (Kansai Historical and Cultural Capital Power Communication Project) is the implementation of the idea of "Looking back, we can see the future" advocated by KIMURA Shozaburo, the first president of the Event Society, and is a project that takes advantage of the unique characteristics of Kansai, with world heritage sites in all two prefectures and four prefectures. It was a presentation that gave us hope that the many global citizens who appeared in the experiential tourism video will continue to cherish history and create new value.

In addition to summarizing three challenges, this session raised the keyword "social empowerment initiative."

EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan clearly defined the existence of "global citizens" as the third engine after countries, international organizations, and companies, and achieved active participation in the Expo by citizens, which was highly praised by the BIE. The idea of citizen participation realized at EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan has been inherited in subsequent Expos.

There is no doubt that countries, international organizations, and companies will continue to be indispensable players in the society of the future. With "global citizens" added to the mix and each player exerting their strengths, the event will continue to be an engine that creates a new era.
Japan Institute of Eventology hopes that we will support the further development of the three co-creation challenges, while at the same time ensuring that the ideals of global citizenship are passed on to the World Expo Serbia and the Yokohama International Horticultural Expo in 2027, and that changes in individual and societal behavior through events will be promoted. We will continue to promote research activities and policy proposals to that end.
