EXPO2025 Theme Weeks

Programme details

Japan Institute of Eventology which explores the significance, methods, and effectiveness of events, has promoting three TEAM EXPO 2025 Co-Creation Challenges based on the participation and collaboration of "Global Citizens" with GISPRI (Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute), a general incorporated foundation that is the successor to Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan.
All of the co-creation challenges we have promoted contribute to achieving the SDGs, which are the goals of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, and inherit the important concept of "citizen participation" realized at Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan.
This program will be presenting the results of the "Kansai Historical and Cultural Capital Forum," which has been promoted in six Kansai prefectures, based on the idea that studying "history and culture" is an important stepping stone to thinking about the "future,".
After the forum, local TV stations took the initiative to produce 15-minute “experiential tourism videos” with the involvement of the local communities. Shiga, Kyoto, Hyogo, Nara, Wakayama, Osaka, etc., will show six videos at once, each filled with their own history and culture, and transmit them to the world from the Expo site

Reports

The “Kansai Historical and Cultural Capitals Forum” held from November 2023 to January 2025 enabled us to discover, confirm, and disseminate the attractiveness of each region and its so-called “Power of Historical and Cultural Capitals” once again.
As a next step, we invited Shiga Prefecture Governor Taizo Mikazuki (President of the Union of Kansai Governments and Vice President of the Japan Association for International Expositions) to serve as our ambassador, and launched the "Kansai Historical and Cultural Capital Power Transmission Project. Local TV stations in the two prefectures in Kansai are cooperating to select content that will allow visitors to experience the “power of the historical and cultural capitals” of their respective regions, and produce a “historical and cultural experience-type tourism video” of the region. On May 6, six of these videos were shown to the world at once (via the Internet) from the Expo site in Osaka, Kansai.
These videos, which can lead visitors from around the world not only to the Expo site but also to the surrounding prefectures, will live on as an effective and practical “legacy” for local development even after the Expo.

If the “Kansai Historical and Cultural Capital Forum” is a hop and the ongoing “Kansai Historical and Cultural Capital Power Project” is a step, the jump is to have more people watch the compilation video of the “Kansai Historical and Cultural Capital Power” and actually visit each region after May 6 and even after the Expo. The first step is to make the video available to the public.
To this end, we would first like to increase the number of places and opportunities where the video can be viewed. For example, the Expo's website, broadcasters' websites and programs, giant televisions in commercial facilities, street corner signage, railroad projectors, and entries in film festivals and video festivals, etc. With the ideas and connections of broadcasters and event societies, we would like to make every effort to spread the video. We believe that increasing viewing opportunities will create and nurture new tourist attractions in our hometown.
Through the three years of events, forums, and video production, we have been able to increase the number of people who consider “local treasures” as their own personal matters. In addition, industry-government-academia collaboration teams with practical and diffusion capabilities were born in each prefecture. We would like to make the most of this “asset” and, as the next step, work toward the establishment of a “Kansai Summit of Historical and Cultural Capitals” with representatives from industry, government, academia, and citizens from the four prefectures of the region. This project will also lead to regional revitalization and local development, and ultimately to a "sustainable future society.
