Programme details

The VTA Hydropower® system also enables the simultaneous production of a high-quality precipitant that can be used on site for wastewater treatment. This process not only ensures cost-efficient wastewater treatment, but also a significant reduction in the CO₂ footprint in the wastewater sector. This transforms the wastewater treatment plant from an intensive energy consumer into an independent energy producer that makes a valuable contribution to climate protection and the resilience of communities by utilising secondary raw materials and saving on transport routes.
VTA Hydropower® marks a milestone in the transformation to climate-neutral and crisis-proof water management. This technology not only saves costs and conserves resources, but also significantly improves water protection by increasing purification performance while efficiently retaining microplastics and various difficult-to-degrade pollutants. Wastewater treatment plants thus become regional energy sources and at the same time make an active contribution to environmental and health protection. The pioneering project, which will start in Kitzbühel in 2025, sets new standards and could become a model for a sustainable, independent energy future for a large number of European municipalities.

Addressing the needs of a 10 billion-strong population requires integrating sustainable practices across all sectors. VTA’s contributions are vital, ensuring that the water necessary for producing food, manufacturing clothing, and building shelters remains safe and abundant.

Marlen Kubinger

VTA Austria

My name is Marlen Kubinger and I have been representing the VTA Group as an authorised signatory since this year. My father is the VTA founder Ing. Mag. Dr h.c. Ulrich Kubinger. My expertise began in the field of micro- and molecular biology, which I helped to build up. My current field of activity is Marketing & Public Relations. The annual events and symposia help to familiarise as many people as possible with our solution concepts and thus help more and more people around the world every day. We currently treat the wastewater of more than 250 million people in 65 countries worldwide every day. My mission is to create clean water for the world and future generations.

Andreas Gabriel

VTA Austria

Andreas Gabriel began his academic career with a bachelor's degree in biology and subsequently completed a master's degree in zoology at the University of Vienna (Austria). During his studies, he actively worked on various projects, seminars and laboratory internships, which also led to scientific publications.
In 2018, he started as a laboratory employee at VTA, where he initially specialised in carrying out microscopic analyses. His tasks included the realisation, documentation and reporting of large-scale practical tests with innovative ultrasonic technologies to improve the dewatering properties of sewage sludge.
Since December 2019, he has been Head of the Biological Department at the VTA Institute for Health and Environment and is responsible for the entire field of microbiology and molecular biology. He also coordinates all analytical services of the VTA Biology Department. As head of the VTA Research Institute, he is also responsible for the development of innovative technologies in the field of VTA's liquid engineering processes.

Necessities of Life: Food, Clothing and Shelter Week

Becoming a climate hero with VTA Hydropower

The ongoing turbulence in the energy sector, exacerbated by geopolitical crises and supply shortages, has presented the wastewater industry with enormous challenges. Sewage treatment plants, which rely on energy-intensive precipitants to bind phosphorus and protect water from over-fertilisation, were in some cases no longer able to meet legal requirements in the face of these bottlenecks. The VTA Group, a pioneer in sustainable environmental technologies, responded to this crisis by developing Hydropower® technology - a globally innovative solution that turns wastewater into a source of energy and precipitants and allows wastewater treatment plants to operate independently.
With the revolutionary VTA Hydropower®, the vision of energy self-sufficient wastewater treatment plants is becoming a reality.
